The Dreamland Heritage Trust (DHT) is seeking a new chair of trustees to provide leadership and direction to the board of trustees. We are looking for a committed, passionate individual with the drive to achieve ambitious growth for the charity. The chair of the DHT does not receive financial remuneration, although expenses for travel may be claimed.
The successful candidate will chair eight board meetings per year (4 face-to-face and 4 online) and will also be expected to have regular meetings with the project manager and attend project management, volunteer and other working group meetings as they see fit, as well as represent the Charity at various events and meetings with key stakeholders.
To be successful, you will understand the role of a charity chair, be comfortable with the expectations in terms of time and responsibility and be passionate about Dreamland and Margate.
The DHT works to ensure that there is a thriving Dreamland in Margate, which engages local partners and the local community in its work. It wants Dreamland to be recognised nationally and internationally for the place it holds in the history of amusement parks and the development of popular British seaside culture throughout the ages.
The mission of the DHT is to protect and promote the heritage, education, historic and brand proposition of Dreamland in Margate and safeguard them for the future.
To achieve this vision, the DHT, a registered charity, works closely with Dreamland’s operator and other key partners.
Objective of the chair role
As chair, you will provide leadership to the board of trustees, ensuring that each trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the charity. The chair will also support the project manager to ensure that the DHT is able to achieve its objectives and grant conditions.
You will be responsible for ensuring the board functions as a unit and works closely with the staff and volunteers, in doing so holding all members to account for the charity’s vision. You will also act as an ambassador and the public face of the charity.

Is ambitious about the social, cultural and heritage impact the DHT can have, driving the strategy for future growth, creating a sustainable financial future and a strong partnership with Dreamland’s operator

Will build a strong working relationship with the project manager, volunteers and the board, helping the project manager and wider team to achieve the charity’s aims and commitments

Will be a proactive champion for the DHT, acting as an advocate for the charity's work and growing our profile

Has significant professional experience of the third sector

Has a strong understanding of the role of a charity chair (previous board experience is highly desirable)
